Less than a month after acquiring Internet Security Systems for $1.3 billion, IBM plans to unveil its first appliance - the Proventia Management SiteProtector.
SiteProtector is designed to allow network and host security operations to be managed from one console. It manages a number of software products from ISS, including network-based intrusion prevention, multi-function systems, server and desktop security, vulnerability management, anomaly detection and e-mail security.
The device also manages antivirus software - a new innovation for ISS machines. It includes an “update now” feature for applying immediate security policy changes, and options for traffic analysis and filtering.
The ability to manage all security software from one box is a cost-effective solution as it eliminates the need to buy several security devices or implement multiple management consoles to maintain security. It also saves time, as it eliminates the need to install, configure and maintain many machines. SiteProtector is pre-configured and can be set up in half an hour or less.
The Proventia Management SiteProtector box will be available by the end of November 2006.
