Yoggie Security Systems, an Israeli start-up, has developed an innovative device to provide high-level security to laptops when users access the Internet via hotspots, airports, and hotel rooms.

The Yoggie Gatekeeper, which is about the size of a credit-card, is a miniature computer which connects to laptop and provides remote workers with the same level of security as that utilised by corporate networks.

The GateKeeper, which goes on sale in the US this month, is designed specifically to protect the Windows XP platform. It includes a firewall, a VPN client, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-phishing, four proxy systems, intrusion detection, intrusion prevention, and a security engine.

The device features an adaptive security program which manages and adjusts security levels in response to each new attack. This means that the end user or IT manager does not need to alter security policies manually.

The Gatekeeper requires no installation, configuration, or updates. Previous security software had to be installed onto a laptop and had an impact on the performance of the device. Gatekeeper takes the security software off the lap top and onto a mini computer, thereby restoring the laptop to 100% productivity.

The device will initially be distributed in the US, the UK and Germany. In the US, the basic version will cost $180 and the professional version $220. The product will also be available over the Internet.

In January, Yoggie plans to release another version for individuals and home users. Source:
