moka5’s LivePC Engine Sets New Standards

moka5 is launching its LivePC Engine at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2007 in Las Vegas, which runs from January 8-12, 2007. LivePC Engine turns a PC into a safe and universal platform for a range of consumer electronic devices.

The technology allows consumers to carry several virtual computers on their USB fingertip drive or iPod which can then be run on any Windows PC without the need for installation. LiveEngine is the first USB stick able to carry a PC.

In addition to mobility benefits, LivePC Engine includes a number of security features. It streams virtual PCs to the USB drives and keeps the PCs live with automatic security patches and software updates while backing up data. The engine can also lock down the LivePCs so that accidentally installed malware will be eliminated when the PC is rebooted. LivePC Engine isolates the guest LivePCs from the host computer, so errors and malware on the guest cannot corrupt the host.

The security and mobility benefits generated by LivePC Engine mean that internet cafes and hotel business centers can now safely allow visitors to their own LivePCs off their personal USB drive without the risk of security breaches or personal information being left behind.

LivePC makes it easy for companies to manage their workers’ home-based computers. Remote staff can carry LivePCs with confidential data on an encrypted fingertip drive and hardware disasters can be recovered by streaming LivePCs onto any working PC. Software crashes can be recovered with a LivePC reboot.

Also available is the Linux-based moka5 Fearless Browser(TM) which is not susceptible to Windows malware. It also prevents eavesdropping, protects against phishing and stops a users location or internet activity being tracked. Other examples of LivePCs include the one-laptop-per- child OS for students in developing countries and Songbird — a digital jukebox.

Moka5 is headquartered in Redwood City, California.
