Cisco Releases Security Patches For Routers

Cisco has released three patches for security vulnerabilities in its Cisco IOS and IOS XR routers.

Although the patches have been issued to internet service providers, there is concern that cybercriminals could exploit the flaws before the patches are rolled out.

Security experts believe that at least one of the vulnerabilities could cause e-mail and internet access issues.

As the patches affect the internet infrastructure itself - the routers which companies use to pass on net traffic - there is nothing the individual can do to protect themselves.

Cisco has said that it is not aware of any current exploitation of the vulnerabilities.

One of the flaws could allow a hacker to take control of a Cisco router and install software of their choosing. However, the types of attacks are expected to be limited as there would be little financial motive.
