Check Point has announced UTM-1, its first universal threat management appliance.
UTM-1 provides an easy to deploy security system for mid-sized organisations who do not wish to buy security software and install it themselves.
The appliance includes an application-firewall, SSL VPN, anti-malware and web URL filtering. It can control both VoIP and instant messaging applications.
UTM-1 utilises the same technology used by Check Point in its high-end security software, minus the scalability features aimed at larger users, such as clustering and virtual firewalls.
The appliance comes with tutorials on how to set up a security policy and licensing. A bootable USB key with diagnostic tools and an option to reset to the last known-good configuration is provided.
UTM-1 is available in three sizes, priced from $7,500 to $15,500. Update services for the URL filtering and anti-malware services cost a further $2,750 a year.
The smallest size features four ports, for LAN, WAN, DMZ and a second DMZ or WAN, and a 400Mbit/s firewall which is designed to cope with up to 250 users.
The more expensive versions have additional ports, allowing an organisation to link its suppliers in via firewalled VPNs. They can also handle up to 2Gbit/s of bandwith for firewall throughput, for up to 1,000 users.
