Cybercrimes Increasing
by Lashan Clarke
Cybercrimes are on the increase and are being pulled off by very savvy computer thieves.
In the past six years, an analysis of the identity cases closed by the U.S. Secret Service has shown that the victims did not know the perpetrator nor did the thief have a criminal record.
Since 2004, identity theft makes up about one-third of all criminal complaints to the Federal Trade Commission and other agencies and has become known as THE financial crime of the 21st century.
In ongoing investigations, the Secret Service has cracked a number of identity theft rings including the arrest of Max Ray Butler, a former security consultant in San Francisco.
