A lawsuit has been filed against the Department of Homeland Security for its use of electronic searches at the US border. The lawsuit filed on behalf of the Asian Law Caucus, and the Electronic Frontier Foundation. These civil groups cite the purpose of their lawsuit against the Department Of Homeland Security is the use of invasive search techniques.

These invasive techniques include searches of mobile cell phones and laptop computers while travellers entered the United States. This lawsuit is based on the Freedom of Information Act. The searches were mainly carried out by US Customs and Border Patrol agents in California.
