FISA Amendment Act 2007 Passed

By Lashan Clarke

February 13, 2008

After a delay, the United States Senate has passed a bill on the proper use of wiretapping of any suspected terrorist. The bill particularly outlines how to wiretap a suspected terrorist or agent living within another company.

Called the FISA Amendments Act 2007, it also will provide retroactive immunity to any company that cooperates with the federal government to carry out these wiretappings. This includes telecommunication companies, and not just other foreign governments.

The ammendment was passed by a vote of 68 to 29, after a one month delay by the Senate.
