IRS Reports Phishing Attacks

By Lashan Clarke

The IRS has issued a security warning to others stating that criminals involved in scams have recently been targeting taxpayers. These criminals will setup a phishing attack, by claiming to be the IRS. The fake website is used to collect details such as date of birth, address, and social security number.

This information was released at the Black Hat DC conference, in which the IRS stated that even they have become a victim of phishing attacks. It was estimated that there was at least a twelve fold increase in the amount of scams by people pretending to be from the IRS.
