Pin and Chip Data Not Secure

The researchers at the University of Cambridge have confirmed what the public knew all along, that the debit card and credt card readers are not safe. The data is not being encrypted on the pin pad, and as such, thieves are able to easily steal your data. The PIN pad gives a thief access to your private information. With a wiretap, it is possible to collect PIN information on a daily basis. The Chip and PIN is not always set up in a secure way, “The vulnerabilities we found were caused by a series of design errors by the manufacturers. They can be exploited because Britain’s banks set up the Chip & PIN in an insecure way … A villain who taps this gets all the information he needs to make a fake card, and to use it,” stated Saar Drimer, of University of Cambridge.
