Four new updates for Office to be released next week
March 9, 2008
Microsoft is preparing at least four security updates for release next week on 11th March - this months ‘Patch Tuesday’.
All the patches are aimed at fixing four different weaknesses in Microsoft Office, which have been classified as ‘critical’, Microsoft’s highest level of alert.
Microsoft did not go into detail about the nature of the weak spots, but each of them is a potential target for attackers, who could exploit them by exectuting a code remotely on the target system.
Microsoft Office versions to receive the fix include 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2007, the most recent version, as well as Microsoft Office Web Components 2000. Office users with Macs will also be able to use the updates, with patches to be released for the 2004 and 2008 versions of Office for Mac.
The updates for Macs have been placed at alert level ‘important’.
