Four Million People Affected In Hannaford Security Breach

By Lashan Clarke

March 18, 2008

In a press release, the large grocery store Hannaford had to inform its 4.2 million customers of a security breach. This press release was issued after credit card companies warned that a major retailer undergoing a security breach could comprise the security of millions of people. The Hannaford chain has over 170 stores throughout New England and Florida.

President Ronald Hodge was apologetic, “We sincerely regret this intrusion into our systems, which we believe, are among the strongest in the industry. The stolen data was limited to credit and debit card numbers and expiration dates, and was illegally accessed from our computer systems during transmission of card authorization.”
