Widespread “Chinese JavaScript Attack” infects security website

Last week hackers attacked over 20,000 web pages including Trend Micro.

Mike Sweeny, a spokesman for Trend Micro confirmed a portion of their sight had been hacked saying, they took down the affected pages and took corrective action.

The object of the attack is to steal passwords sent via Internet Explorer. It does this through a javascript code the hackers have managed to insert into the infected websites.

This code redirects visitors to servers based in China, where the password stealing malware is invisibly installed on the user’s computer.

This is the same type of attack that was used on the Miami Dolphins’ website just prior to the Superbowl last year.
