Problems with Windows Vista SP1
March 24, 2008
Microsoft’s recently released service pack, made available only last week, has been causing glitches in PC’s according to bloggers.
One blogger, ‘SeppDietrich’, wrote: “What a disaster. It exiled all my Nvidia drivers to the Bermuda Triangle.”
Another, ‘Bikkja’, said that the performance of his computer had decreased – ‘After installing SP1 things seem to go really slow, even though my computer shouldn’t have any problems’.
Microsoft had already anticipated some problems, and stated before the release that Vista SP1 will automatically refuse to install on machines using peripheral devices which are incompatible.
They have released a list of incompatible device drivers.
It is not uncommon for software patches to get off to a rocky start, and most people who install new patches as soon as they are released soon come up against problems and have to wait for them to be fixed.
The service pack, which is available for free from the Windows Update website or for purchase from online stores such as Amazon, was intended to fix 300 faults.
It includes a patch that allows users to run the BitLocker encryption tool on multiple hard drives, and also decreases the time in which Windows wakes up from hibernate mode.
