Greynet Enterprise Manager upgrades to ensure secure use of Skype
March 28, 2008
FaceTime Communications, a leader in internet and unified communications (UC), has announced its exclusive security product to monitor Skype usage.
Working with Skype for over a year their newest release of Greynet Enterprise Manager (GEM) is designed to detect malicious urls via Skype instant messaging.
It is the only vendor with the ability to view and verify the content of a encrypted Skype instant message as it enters the network.
IT-oriented controls are also available to manage Skype within an enterprise using FaceTime’s Unified Security Gateway appliance.
File transfer, voice calling, video calling, voicemail and voice recording can all be managed centrally across the board or for various departments and individuals.
Bandwidth can be monitored and controlled by setting parameters to prevent users from becoming supernodes or relay nodes. Proxy and listen port settings can be turned on or off users and administrators.
Skype’s ease of use and low cost has made it very popular. Now that there is a way to monitor both the content and the system resources it uses, it is likely its use in the business community will increase even more.
