The 2008 Octopus Cybercrime Conference

By Lashan Clarke

April 3, 2008

In a move to help receive more cooperation for companies that provide Internet service to its customers, the Council of Europe will be voting on ways to ensure that online security problems are prevented.

This was the main agenda during the 2008 Octopus Conference on Cybercrime in France.

During this conference, members are hopeful to come to some agreement on the proper way to respond to an Internet attack, and how more information can be channeled between Internet service providers and the government.

The council made this statement after cyberattacks took place in Estonia last year, “The draft guidelines build upon the existing Council of Europe Convention on Cybercrime - to which many countries in Europe and beyond have acceded - and call for formal partnerships between Internet service providers (ISPs) and law enforcement,” the Council stated.
