Malware Attacks Increase

As a response to recent widespread reports of a new wave of data stealing attacks that include Sinowal Trojan - aka Torpig and Mebroot - which were responsible for the theft of perhaps many hundreds of thousands of online bank account details as well as bank payment card data, Finjan says it is willing to organise free a malware detection survey to companies in order to avert the growth of this widespread criminal activity.

It is obvious that criminals would not still be making use of malware if it was not effective in capturing the information that they are searching for.

Some of these attacks can have devastating effects on companies in a multitude of ways.

The Sinowal Trojan is capable of inflicting serious damage on individual computers and also gathers information on personal finances, putting companies in an impossible legal situation that could prove financially devastating.

If these cyber criminals can manage to capture bank details of a large company they can easily and quickly cream off large amounts of cash before the company even notices that they have been attacked.

These criminals seem to favour organisations that make use of large numbers of credit cards given to their staff in order to conduct their business.

The damage that could be inflicted by making use of the card details could be very large scale indeed.

According to analysts these attacks may have gathered nearly 300,000 online bank account details and also information on nearly quarter of a million credit cards in North America and across Europe.

Finjan intends to offer the use of its auditing tool, RUSafe, to give companies a snapshot of their web traffic and ascertain if they are mixing with potential thieves.
