Finjan Inc today announced that it donated one of its award winning Vital Security NG-5000 Secure Web Gateway appliances to the Children and Teenagers Ward of Hospital St Jansdal in The Netherlands.

Utilizing Finjan’s patented real-time content inspection, it ensures safe Internet access for the seriously ill young patients in the Hospital’s Children and Teenagers Ward.

“At Hospital St Jansdal, we encourage our young patients to use the Internet to stay in touch with their friends and social circle. It helps them to cope with their serious illnesses”, said Dick van Boven, Head of the Children and Teenagers Ward of Hospital St Jansdal.

”Hospitalization often results in additional physical, social and psychological traumas. Safe communication means are therefore essential to distract their minds and keep in touch with their inner circle.

Since the Finjan’s Secure Web Gateway solution that is deployed at our Hospital has proven to provide optimal protection to our network and employees, it was only logical that we asked Finjan to help us protect our young and vulnerable patients against malicious and undesirable Web content.”

“As Finjan, it is our company vision to enable a world in which enterprises and organizations reap maximum benefits from the web while enjoying optimal security,” said Arien Klomp, Regional Sales Director at Finjan. “Needless to say, this also applies to the Hospital’s young patients, who are known to be savvy Web 2.0 users.

Apart from surfing the Web, they also use social network sites such as hypes.nl and Instant Messaging. We see it therefore as our social responsibility to protect these young patients against malicious Web content and improper websites by donating our Vital Security NG-5000 Secure Web Gateway.”

The installed Vital Security NG-5000 Secure Web Gateway serves several stand-alone computers that are separate from the main network. These computers are for the sole use of the children and teenagers.

This deployment is separate from Finjan’s deployed solution at the Hospital, where two redundant NG-5000 appliances installed at the Internet gateway support the Hospital’s employees in a high availability configuration.

It features patented active real-time content inspection technology to detect and block inbound and outbound known and unknown malicious Web threats. These “all-in-one” appliances feature Finjan’s active real- time content inspection, Vulnerability Anti.dote, and Kaspersky’s Anti-Virus.

With Finjan’s solution, personal and patient data are protected, thus ensuring compliance with WBP, NEN75100, NEN7511-1, and GBZ.
