International SOS chooses ExaGrid for data backup
by David Masters
Healthcare provider International SOS UK (ISUK) has chosen ExaGrid’s disk-based backup solution, after it found that tape-based backup caused a daily backlog.
Ben Aung, ISUK’s infrastructure manager, explained: “We had lots of problems with tape, but our main concern was the length of our backups.
“Our nightly backup windows were way too long and our backup jobs had begun to run into the workday.
“And if the backup was running, we couldn’t restore files.”
After considering a number of solutions, ISUK eventually opted for a two site ExaGrid system to bakc up the data at its London office.
Backups now take six hours, compared to 14 hours on tape, whilst costs are reduced as less money will be spent on tape.
“In a tough economic climate where prudence is essential, we will be able to better control costs by reducing the amount of money we spend on tape, transportation and storage fees,” Aung said.
ISUK also chose ExaGrid because it gives the company the option to expand the system at a later date without incurring a major cost.
“Exagrid’s modular architecture will enable us to easily add capacity in the future to accommodate more data,” Aung said.
