New security software for HP notebook
by Alan Harten
HP has recently contracted Symantec to bundle its security software into all of the new HP notebook and desktop packages.
In line with the new deal all pre-installed JP systems will contain Norton Online Backup and customers will have access to a thirty day free trial of the Norton 5GB backup service.
HP has been selling desktop backup software for many years but has started to refocus its efforts on online backup as people are turning to online solutions over hardware solutions.
Before the new partnership for the backup services, HP and Symantec already had a deal that allows HP to install Norton Internet Security on all new systems for a sixty day free trial.
Janice Chaffin, Symantec’s president of the consumer business unit, reported that customers see Norton security products as a name they know they can trust.
Thus, the new inclusion of the backup trial will boost potential service sales as they get a taste of another protective service.
HP will begin to add the Online Backup service to all computers shipped starting in September.
CEO and President of Symantec said that the company expects software services to grow in popularity in the next few years with predictions that by 2014 software as service products will compose about 15% of its business profits.
